Gregory Louis
Gregory is available for in studio and in home Sessions Sunday & Monday July-August.
Gregory is passionate about movement and feels fortunate to have found, in the fundamentals of the Pilates practice, a methodology that understands movement itself as the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Dogged by old sports injuries, he first came to the practice in his early 20s while living in Los Angeles. After his very first experience—a magic circle mat class he took at a gym he belonged to at the time—he knew he had stumbled upon something truly revolutionary, and decided to become a teacher just six months later. “Something this powerful,” he thought, “must be shared with others.”
Gregory was classically certified in 2013 through the Equinox Pilates Teacher Training Institute, and in the decade since has worked with teacher-mentors from several ideologies across the larger Pilates spectrum including BASI, Stott and PhysicalMind. During his years in LA he was also fortunate to have shot multiple campaigns as a fitness model for Peak Pilates, and was featured as a workout contributor and cover model for Pilates Style Magazine. In 2018, Gregory moved to New York, and currently resides in Brooklyn. In addition to his teaching practice in the city, he’s spent several summers working with clients in the Hamptons (plus an entire year spent living and teaching in Sag Harbor).
Inspired by the language of Joseph Pilates’ original method--Contrology, as “complete coordination of body, mind and spirit”—Gregory teaches Pilates as a living, ever-evolving movement philosophy, grounded in the belief that breath and movement are our best tools for achieving overall wellbeing. "At its best,” Gregory likes to say, "Pilates is so much more than just a ‘workout!’”
